After being so close just one week ago at Sandusky Speedway to his first feature win, Sawyer Stout puts together a dominating performance at the Outlaw 350 Supermodified Sprint Series event at the Flat Rock Grand Prix!
Everyone was battling a slick track, and an expedited schedule as we also raced the weather. Because of that threat, there were no heat races for any of the divisions Saturday night.
Clayton Karl and Frank Neill paced the hot lap sessions, but it was Flat Rock Speedway regular, RJ Cornett Jr, also his first time in a supermodified, who claimed the Jim Valentine Fast Time Award and the $100 bonus that went along with it.
Immediately after qualifying, the supers made a quick turn around and lined up for the feature event. The racing brothers, Doug and Brian Neubauer, held the front row and brought the field to green for the 30 laps event. Doug got the best of his brother and led the first lap. Unfortunately, soon after ,the #7 Energize car was the recipient of the first caution, after spinning in turn 1. At the same time , the 2 of Todd McQuillen pulled into the infield with an apparent oil leak. On the ensuing restart, Sawyer Stout took command of the race from Brandon Fisher , and was basically unchallenged from that point. RJ Cornett Jr, starting in the 9th spot , due to a 10 car inversion, made his way through the field for a great second place finish. Todd Buchanan was third , with Frank Neill and Clayton Karl rounding out the top 5.
The race was halted for red on lap 12 for a scary incident involving the 7 of Doug Neubauer. It appeared Doug clipped the back straight wall with the right front, and the car rode up the wall and rolled over. Doug was taken to a local hospital, where he was given a checkup, and released.
The series heads next week, June 8, to the Plymouth Motor Speedway for our rescheduled event from the May 11th date
